Thorn provides solutions for light that inspires discovery and enhances wellbeing — shaping the future of healthcare in Western Sydney.
The Lang Walker AO Medical Research Building in Western Sydney is a five-storey, state-of-the-art facility that brings together leading researchers, clinicians, and industry partners to deliver better health outcomes for the people of the local area and beyond.
Opening in 2025, it stands as a landmark for innovation and collaboration in the Macarthur region, forming a key part of the Campbelltown Hospital redevelopment.
Lighting design's pivotal role
Purpose-built to inspire discovery, the building focuses on five critical research areas — mental health, diabetes and obesity, paediatrics and adolescent health, Indigenous health, and addiction medicine. It also addresses some of its community’s most important health challenges.
Lighting design played a pivotal role in realising BVN’s architectural vision, creating an environment that’s not only functional and efficient but also uplifting and sustainable. From research spaces to shared public areas and the landscaped Village Green, Thorn’s solutions deliver comfort, clarity, and connection through light.

Committment to the future
Aligned with the Campbelltown Health and Education Precinct, the project is targeting 5 Star Green Star certification from the Green Building Council of Australia — a testament to its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and design excellence.
Featured lighting solutions include: Novaline Style, Linn and Civiteq. The following products were also used, and are available as part of a regional portfolio only: Base Pro, Royal Pro, Indilouver Pro, WeatherForce G2, Evenline Pro and Chartor Bollard.
The project also utilises solutions from our sister brand, Zumtobel Lighting.
